Dawn,
I just realized that you and I started DeviantART on the same day. Thank you so very much for commenting on my portrait of Travis. It has taken me this week to realize that I am supposed to respond back to comments, etc. Forgive my time delay but I doubly appreciate your comment since I know now that you are a newbie as well. -- Ginger Sisco Cook This is an awesome portrait Ginger !
In my opinion/perception, I find the cropping interesting and appealing. I like the tones a lot and the deep expression in is eyes is beautifully captured. keep it up -- "Art is an experience, coming from a rendez-vous with the inner self" ~Aimelle I guess most of the things have been mentioned already, but I'd still say that this is a wonderful portrait! I really like the tone and the contrast. The picture also has alot of emotion I think.
The only critique I've got, is that it might have looked better if you didn't crop the top of his head. Other than that great |

( I sit here struggling with the thoughts in my head.
Holding something so perfect, not sure it belongs to me.
My mind wanders in paths with dead ends, places I’ve traveled long ago.
I worry about my unconscious thoughts,
those I have no control,
no power to make disappear.
With you my mind is clear, free
But my heart is not there yet.
I wait for a decision to be made, for the haze to life
For me to be with you.
I miss your company when you’re gone.
Your touch, your attention,
I crave so bad.
My struggles are hidden as you assume we’re on the same page
But here I hide a chapter before you).
The physical aspects of this capture: Focus is crisp, Color is almost a muted sepia tone which i really like, it lends to a photograph which might have just been an ordinary picture and turned it into a very nice piece. Really I wouldnt change a thing on this.
The contrast is just gorgeous, I love the heaviness of it. The monotone shades make the picture as well. I can't imagine this brightly colored. It's a great mood.
As for improvements, there isn't really much. It may have been nicer with a slightly less constricting crop, because the very top of his hair and his elbow are cropped out, and it makes us feel a little bit shoved in.
Other than the cropping, I think this photo is great. Keep up the really good work!
