This is the old process done during the Civil War period.  I took a workshop with Frank Lopez to learn how to process the plate.  It is great fun.  However, the chemicals are quite expensive.

Completely amazing image. I am off to read your blog as I know nothing about wet plate work, but I have seen a documentary on some guy who made his inter truck into a wet plate type camera I believe.

I remember my mother telling me that her mother used to work with these glass photographic plates.
It would have been quite interesting to have had the opertunity to talk to her about this; as her main job with these was to actually enhance and correct them.
I find it hard to imagine how she managed to essentially "photoshop" someone to remove their lip cleft and other stuff that was requested.

It's truely an art form that really does need preserving!

I have to admit, I've never heard of this technique before, but it sounds very interesting and the process is probably so thrilling, since you witness the creation of a photography since its 'birth'.
